Home / Rubber gym flooring
Rubber gym floors for residents’ gyms in apartment towers, retirement communities and education facilities, laid over acoustic isolation layers so dropped weights stay in the gym and not in the apartment below.
It has to protect the slab and the people using it, and in a residential building it has to stop the thud of a dropped dumbbell travelling through the structure. A gym above apartments, or next to a lounge or a pool deck, is one of the hardest acoustic problems in a building.
We install whatever quality rubber gym flooring is specified, from rubber rolls across the whole room to thicker impact tiles in free-weight zones, over the acoustic isolation layer specified in the acoustic engineer’s report.
Seams are tight and fully bonded, edges and transitions are ramped so there’s nothing to trip on, and the slab underneath is prepared first, because rubber shows every hump and hollow beneath it. See also acoustic flooring.
The acoustic report and the way the gym will be used decide the system.
Rubber, thickness, impact zones and isolation layer confirmed against the acoustic report.
Moisture tested, ground and levelled so the rubber and underlay sit flat.
Roll direction, seam positions and impact tile zones planned around the equipment layout.
Isolation layer and rubber installed and adhered, with seams bonded and edges ramped.
Floor protected until the equipment arrives, with cleaning and care information.

It depends on how the gym will be used and what’s underneath it. General training areas often use rubber rolls, while free-weight and lifting zones need thicker impact tiles or an isolation layer. In residential buildings, the acoustic engineer’s report sets the system, and that’s what we install.
Rubber on its own helps, but in apartment buildings it’s usually laid over an acoustic isolation layer designed to reduce impact noise. The performance comes from the whole system and the slab, which is why the acoustic engineer specifies it.
Rolls give a near-seamless floor across a large area and suit general training and cardio. Tiles are thicker and suit heavy drop zones. Many gyms use both, with tiles under the free weights and rolls everywhere else.
Whatever quality rubber gym flooring is specified. Recent installs include Regupol everroll rubber rolls, Regupol FX75 impact tiles and Regupol Sound and Sonus Core isolation underlays.
