What a floorer actually does.
Every building needs floors, and floorers are the people who lay them. You’ll prepare and level the concrete, then lay carpet, vinyl, timber and hybrid floors in apartment towers, offices, schools, hospitals and aged care.
It’s hands-on, mostly indoors, and at the end of every day you can see exactly what you built. Most people have never heard of it as a career, which means fewer people chasing the same spots.
- CarpetBroadloom and carpet tiles for offices, apartments and hotels.
- Vinyl and safety flooringWelded sheet vinyl for hospitals, aged care, kitchens and wet areas.
- Timber and hybridEngineered timber and hybrid planks in apartments and homes.
- Floor preparationGrinding, levelling and moisture barriers so the floor lasts.
- Big projectsSome of Brisbane’s biggest apartment and office buildings.
Meet Bailey.
Bailey started with us at 18, straight out of high school. Over his apprenticeship he worked alongside our qualified leading hands, and his favourite projects were the Coles automated factory and DFO Brisbane.
In October 2026 he was signed off as a qualified floorer, with a trade he can take anywhere.

For parents.
An apprenticeship is a real job with a real qualification at the end. Your son or daughter is paid from their first day, works under a qualified leading hand, completes site safety inductions, and trains towards a nationally recognised trade certificate.
There’s no student debt, and flooring is needed on every building, so it’s a skill that keeps working. If you’d like to talk it through before they apply, call us on 07 3462 2715.

Common questions.
Do I need any experience?
No. We teach you the trade from scratch. A good attitude matters more than experience.
Am I paid while I learn?
Yes, from your first day. Apprentice wages are set by the relevant award and go up each year of your apprenticeship.
How long does it take?
Usually about four years, working on site the whole time while you complete your Certificate III in Flooring Technology.
Who will I be employed by?
Our apprentices are signed up through a group training organisation (GTO), and work with the Briz Floors team every day.
What are the hours?
Mostly Monday to Friday with early starts. Some projects need work outside normal hours, such as shutdown work over Christmas.
What happens if you can’t offer me a spot?
We only have two spots, but we’d still like to help you get a start. If you tick the box on the form, we’ll pass your application to the Floor Covering Institute of Australia to share with other flooring contractors who are hiring.
I’m under 18. Can I apply?
Yes. Please talk to a parent or guardian before you apply, and before ticking the box to share your application.
